Debriefing Operation Magenta, J-Cell, Saturday, October 4, 1996

Operation Magenta (partially) successful.

J-cell discovered that the source of the contamination of proto-matter was in the water reservoir.
Witnessed multiple sightings of clusters of lights above the reservoir, heading east.
After contact with A-cell and being notified that CDC would be quarantining the area within 24 hours, J-cell went east, looking for the destination of the lights.

UFO was seen landing/crashing near a farm approx. 12 miles east out of Groversville (J-cell marked the mailbox with a sprayed black triangle).

Cell took positions, covering the farm and barn while Jude scouted the barn door. Some black material just on the other side of the door blocked his night vision equipment. Same was found near the windows.

Farm was checked and deemed abandoned for a long period of time.

The decision had been made by myself that Jude was a liability, his mental state was such that anything he would witness posed a serious threat to the rest of the cell. Feeling that his combat experience could be a key asset in what was to happen, I decided to send him in by himself, rather than hold him back and send in the rest of the team.

Jude was able to sneak in, and reported organic, solid and black material inside the barn. He mentioned a glow further inside, and when he found a good vantage point, he witnessed three beings, from his description over the phone very similar to the typical Grays (none of the other cell members witnessed these beings). They were in the process of operating on a human. Jude also described strange 'machines' or 'tools' inside.

From his voice it was clear he was close to mentally breaking. I called him back and Jude and Knight prepared the C-4 to blow up the interior. I told Jude to go back in, rather than risking any of the others. He did and was able to deliver the bomb package, with Knight having worked out the detonation cord to give Jude the time to get himself in a safe position.
Jude jumped out of the loft, seriously injuring himself, the bomb destroyed the inner structure and its occupants.

Before the cell was able to start examining the remains, a being formed into existence a few meters away from us. in its head there was the same cluster of lights we had witnessed before in the sky, leading me to believe that we didn't witness some kind of unknown 'ship' but this very being.
It attacked Knight but was disposed of before it could actually hurt him.

Immediately afterwards a second one of these beings materialized (we had seen this in the sky, the lights disappearing, only to re-appear further away a moment later), aiming an unknown type of weapon at Jude. We killed it as well, but not in time to save Jude, who was killed by some kind of energy weapon. Before we destroyed it, it was emanating the same sounds as sent previously in a sound file.

We were about to about to collect Jude's remains when a Black Hawk appeared out of nowhere, flooding the area in light. Black-clad men jumped out and aimed automatic weapons at us. At that stage I called A-cell to give what I thought was going to me a final status report before all of us getting killed. They ordered us to put our weapons down, which we did, in order to gain a few precious moments to communicate with you. Jasper however decided to throw a flash-bang at the men and was shot down. My communication was cut off when my phone was destroyed by one of the men. Their leader addressed us, wanting to know what we had seen.

He wasn't wearing a mask, looked in his late 40s, brown hair, bearded, approx. 5'10, 160lb, missing three front teeth, replaced with gold implants. I feigned ignorance, but he figures out I was in charge and made reference to us being 'green'.

He told us it was wisest not to dig into this matter, and disappeared, taking with him the body of Jasper (who may still have been alive at the time).

Before we were able to take any further action, sirens indicated the local law enforcement was about to arrive, so we were unable to secure further evidence.

CONCLUSION AND MATTER TO FOLLOW UP ON:

The beings inside the barn, together with the flying creatures, were more than likely responsible for the disappearance of the locals and definitely of the alterations and operations with proto-matter.
The whole area was contaminated through the presence of proto-matter in the water supply. Agent Knight and myself consumed local food and drink. Please advise on where to go for further examination.
J-Cell was unable to contain a small "ball" of proto-matter. It is still active in room 9 of Merle's Shut-Eye Motel.
Jane Allen was in unnaturally advanced pregnant state. After previous experienced with unnatural pregnancies (See: de-Brief Lazarus), I decided not to take any risks. Agent Knight neutralized the possible threat and burnt the body.
We are still convinced something is seriously wrong with the aldermen, possibly at Town Hall itself. Warn follow-up teams to proceed with extreme care.
Jasper decided to call in external help, without the rest of the cell's knowledge, in the form of a (non-Friendly) member of the Minutemen, some kind of anti-government militia Jasper had become involved with. As much as I was opposed to it, and understanding the risk this carried, I deemed it worth to enlist Bill's help after he had arrived. We needed backup and equipment, and were unable to find it in any other form. I was considering to eliminate him after the Op, but think it is worthwhile to add him to the Group's list of Friendlies. I have taken time to give the basic information, as well as the usual warnings. Further details regarding this individual to follow (no mobile, only to be contacted by landline).
The team we encountered at the end is without a doubt government funded. They know about the existence of Delta Green. I don't understand why the left us alive. After taking some time to think about it, I don't think they necessarily were trying to protect the creatures, it somehow felt like they were looking for them as well. Perhaps they were shooting the flying beings a few weeks ago?
The beings encountered were winged, roughly man-sized, but insectoid in appearance. They have several sets of limbs, some ending in lobster-like pincers, others like tubular stingers. The head was not at all humanoid, rather a mass with a cluster of lights visible in it.
After Jasper's kidnapping, and seeing that we can't be sure whether he is still alive or not, I have gone back to the Knoxville Greenbox and removed certain sensitive items, and relocated these, together with any remaining weapons and ammo in a new Greenbox, located in Maynardville Self-Storage, Unit 17. Advise where to send keys. I recommend to re-visit the Greenboxes used in Operations Sanctum, Lazarus, Iago and Monolith for removal of sensitive items, as these locations are known to Jasper and could be divulged under interrogation.
I urge everyone to be wary of Agent Jasper in case he would re-appear. His mental state was already worrying prior to his abduction, threatening the rest of the cell before the arrival of the helicopter. I'm not sure in what state he could possibly return, and where his allegiance would lie.

Operation MONOLITH De-brief

Operation Monolith successful. Incursion prevented.
Technology recovered will be dropped off at Springfield Green Box. Suggest immediate removal for research. David Hua did not recognize it as anything he had ever seen and said "it should not be able to work in any way".
This technology was implemented by Olympian Holobeam Array. Suggest looking into Olympian Advances Inc.
Agent Joshua and Friendly David Hua KIA. Bodies disposed of.
Agent Jude in bad shape. Will try to get him medical attention off the grid.

Debriefing Operation LAZARUS, J-Cell, December 29th to 30th 1998
1. J-cell met as per instructions and picked up the envelope at the Post Office. From there we went to the Green Box and made our way to Baughman's apartment.
2. The apartment was already relatively clean. A gun was found and removed from the premises, and a room full of paperwork was carefully investigated. No incriminating documents were found.
3. We did find a few invoices and electricity bills for a cabin, along with a set of keys, with one of them labeled "cabin".
4. The garage and car were checked, all was clear there as well.
5. We made out way to the cabin at Tupper Lake (address included). The whole place was also clean, apart from a footlocker (contents listed), including a letter asking whoever came to clean up to take care of something in the septic tank. He called it his "last and unfinished Opera" and told the reader "not to look".
6. We proceeded as quickly as possible and moved the footlocker to the car, and started pouring gasoline. We heard a woman claiming to be Clyde's widow from inside the tank. Given the fact that his wife died years ago, and that no-one had been here to water/feed the woman, I didn't believe her to be mortal/human. I ordered the rest of the cell to continue.
7. The thing was able to escape from the tank and in doing so wounded Jude severely. With some trouble we were able to overcome the creature, and proceeded to burn it in the septic tank. In the course of this, the knife from the locker went down into the tank and was destroyed.
8. At this stage we left the scene, Jagger had given medical assistance to Jude, and we made our way back to the Green Box to drop off the footlocker.

This and the burning of the re-animated corpse concluded Operation LAZARUS.

However, further events unfolded at the Green Box.

a. We found the padlock cut. I ordered J-cell to go in and investigate. Inside we found 2 persons, who identified themselves as Oscar and Oswald (severely wounded).
b. As I was unsure about what was going on, weapons remained trained by both cells. We were joined by Oliver, who kept a weapon on Jude.
c. Jagger assisted by giving Oswald some first aid. I asked Oscar if there were others and he said there was a woman in the back office. Something in his voice told me that matters weren't right. I told Jagger to assist her.
d. Upon his return Jagger informed me that she was heavily pregnant, although she hadn't been 24 hours ago. We had found out that they had just returned from an op that had gone wrong. No-one from O-cell went into any details, but I had decided that if there was any risk here, the situation needed to be solved.
e. I joined Jagger and Oscar, after making clear to Jude and Jasper to be ready if anything went wrong. When I saw Ophelia, it was clear something was very wrong. Oscar refused to see reason and didn't want to sort the situation out. At that moment he went for his gun, and I shot him. Simultaneously there was a noise in Ophelia's room. Jagger and I investigated and found an arachnid creature hanging from the ceiling, shedding its human skin. Jagger left the room, while I engaged. After a few shots, it was able to bite me. I blacked out.
f. When i regained consciousness, the rest of the cell had dispatched the creature and Jagger had contacted you. We continued to clean the Green Box, All paperwork has been collected and is deposited in the Springfield Green Box, together with the footlocker from the cabin. The garage was thoroughly doused in petrol, and the remains of the creature were covered with rubber tires, on top of the grenade we had found. I feel that this explosion, along with the fire, would have been enough to destroy any evidence.
g. The bodies of O-cell have been disposed of, along with their vehicle. I dropped Jagger and Jude off at the airport, and asked Jasper to stay with me, as I am worried that the creature may somehow have injected me with something that could overtake me. He is under instructions to neutralize me if in doubt. We are keeping a low profile at the Morning Dew Caravan Park, Catskills Mountains.
h. I plan to call in four days time and mention the code-word FIVEHEAD. If no email is received, and you have not heard from Jasper, I think i have been overtaken by this creature and will probably have infected Jasper as well (undoubtedly, he would have contacted you otherwise).
In that case, I recommend to find and terminate Agent Jasper with extreme prejudice in order to avoid further contamination.

The creature looked like a man-sized arachnid. It injects poison through bites and had sucked the eyes and brains from Oscar's skull.
Hope this helps identifying it when cross-referencing the database.

Follow-up Operation SANCTUM, J-Cell, November 19th to 20th 1998

After wrapping up SANCTUM I decided to look further into a number of details that stood out in this case.

For the record, I want to point out that even though I suspect Agent CLOVE initiated this Op by herself, rather than on behalf of Delta Green, there were more than markers to warrant DG involvement.

Apparently, this is not a single stand-alone cult. It seems to have close links with Russian Orthodox churches and Russian/Eastern European charities, especially orphanages etc. What the old woman did to JASPER reeks of hypergeometry. I wasn’t present when it happened, but going by the injuries and the extreme measures taken by JAGGER and JASPER to neutralize her, something inexplicable must have happened to them. Also the amount of damage the old woman was able to absorb was too high to be acceptable.

In attachment I send you again a number of images taken during our Op, from which I have researched and deduced a number of details.

Please forward the following keyword to cell-leaders so they can keep an eye out for any similar groups/encounters (images attached taken from the ‘Shrine’ in the cabin)

RUSSIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH/EASTERN EUROPEAN or RUSSIAN CHARITIES involving children

Two Ops were directed at this type of group/organization. Both St Vladimir’s Church as well as the Pittsville home for Children had links to the church as well as charities.

BLACK ICONS
After extensive research regarding the iconographic image, similar to stone-age fertility goddesses, I found references to an obscure collection of comparable religious imagery, known simply as the Black Icons. As far as I can figure out, the image found in Pittsville was drawn or copied in the likeness of one of these Black Icons.

The Black Icons are a series of religious paintings done in the style of classical Russian Orthodox religious icons, depicting the story of an apostate monk who forsakes Christianity for the worship of Magna Mater.

The icons were sold to a New York auction house called, McGunn & Naughton, during the 1920s and are rumored scattered across the United States and Western Europe.

Might be worthwhile looking into finding the catalogue of other items sold in the same auction.

MAGNA MATER/CYBELE
("Great Mother"), the Roman name for Cybele, is an Anatolian mother goddess; cult was active around the 6th century BC. Uniquely in Greek religion, she had a eunuch mendicant priesthood, known as the Galli.

GALLI
The Galli castrated themselves during an ecstatic celebration called the Dies Sanguinis, or "Day of Blood", which took place on March 24.

The men encountered in Pittsville had all been castrated in a crude way. I have no doubt that the injuries done could have been inflicted during one of these celebrations, rather than clinically.

SKOPTSY
Perhaps the Galli are not the right angle to look at the castrated ones. There also was a Russian religious cult that has been persecuted throughout the 18th to 20th Century called the Skoptsy (or Skoptsi). Based in Russia, and persecuted first under the Tsarist regime, later by the Soviets, they believed in the absolution of sin through castration. They gained a lot of wealth, which they used to gather followers, by supporting the poor, buying peasants and providing shelter for orphans.
The sect was supposedly wiped out during Stalin's reign.

Note: Skoptsy comes from the outdated term 'oskopit', meaning to castrate. The term Skoptsy is not a name they use for themselves, they were known to call themselves "God's Lambs" or "White Doves". Odds that DG operatives come into contact with the word Skoptsy when bumping into any files or paperwork owned by this group is small.

Debriefing Operation Sanctum, J-Cell, November 19th to 20th 1998

1. On Wednesday, November 18^th, I was contacted by Clove through this secure channel, informing me I was operationally reinstated and assigned as cell leader to the newly established J-Cell

2. I was supposed to meet with Clove in Wayland, MA at 0300, November 19^th. This was my first contact with the Group in 3 years. As I met her she seemed distraught, explaining to me that I was assigned 3 Friendlies to this specific op. Apparently the op was a follow up on an op involving a raid on a Russian Orthodox Church in NY, where the folder she gave me was recovered. She explained how she read the folder, and how I was supposed to show the folder to the Friendlies in the event they wouldn’t be on board with the op, it would change their mind.

3. The op was to neutralize 4 adults, as the cult was spread thin. She also mentioned “the Group is not around to do this, or it’s not worth their time” and “The Group might be fine letting them sit in their backwater doing this” but she wasn’t OK with it. The main focus was on an old woman, and how she needed to be taken out without allowing her to talk to us. Once the op was over, I needed to call her.

4. After the meeting, I opened the folder myself, and though I can’t recall the exact content, I do remember feeling an urge to stop this cult or whatever it was. I could not shake the feeling that it was the folder somehow pushing me to do this, rather than my own decision

5. I met the Friendlies the next day, in South Boston, MA and gave them the usual rudimentary briefing, explaining how the op needed to be handled without going into any true specifics. Jagger didn’t seem on board, so I showed him the folder. He reacted to it in a similar way as me, which reinforced my feeling. The others didn’t look into the folder.

6. We proceeded with the op and made our way west, just outside of Pittsfield, MA, following standard DG protocols as much as possible. Circumstances forced our hand, during scouting, and I made the decision to go on, as Clove had insisted on the urgency of the matter, rather than retreat and come back, as I was convinced we had enough man and firepower.

7. The targets were neutralized. Jude was wounded in the process (gunshot) and Jagger suffered a number of burns or boils all over his hands and neck. He also seemed temporarily blinded. He and Jasper took out the old woman that Clove had warned us about.

8. The cabin of the old woman had a number of ritual markings, Russian iconography etc. Scars found on the 2 males and 2 females reminded me of the Russian Skopsty sect. See attached images (images of the Fertility Goddess, the inverted iconography and other generic unsettling images in the cabin).

9. 15 Children were found in the main building, one of whom seemed to have been converted by the Cult, and was also neutralised. The others were locked up. As we doused the other buildings with petrol to erase traces and had the bodies packed for disposal, I rang Clove. She asked me to dispatch the children and told me I didn’t need to worry about debriefing you, as she would do that herself. I sent the Friendlies away to take care of any remaining evidence and doused the house in petrol.
10. At that stage I went over the whole operation again and couldn’t shake the feeling that something just didn’t add up. For one, Clove contacted me to be re-activated, not A-Cell. I didn’t need to debrief you, she would. A number of other small details. And I still had that nagging feel of the effect of the folder on me. At that stage I decided not to neutralize them, but to take them with us, to the safe-house in South Boston, and contact A-Cell directly. The rest of the story is known to you.

Final thoughts:

The three Friendlies could work as full Agents, either in J-cell or in any other cell with openings.

* Jasper seems solid. Easy to work with, dependable and able to improvise and take over when needed.

*Jude is of similar cut, but seems to a bit of a wildcard, making his own decisions rather than following instructions at times. Dependable in a firefight. Might need some extra instruction prior to activation as full agent.

*Jagger needs to be observed. Psychological help might be needed, as he may have some side effects of reading the folder as well of the confrontation with the old woman. Perhaps there is someone in the Agency that could follow up with him? Apart from that, he has issues.
